Following the screening at the IFC, Stranger Than Fiction Artistic Director Thom Powers spoke with Producer/Director Nina Rosenblum, Producer/Director/Writer Daniel Allentuck and Contributing Producer Mary Engel.

Stranger Than Fiction: Nina, can you talk about the most difficult thing in telling the story so many years later, and curating this wonderful group of people and photographs?

Nina Rosenblum: The project was so difficult because we wanted to do it so well. As two daughters of a Photo League member, the hardest thing was trying to be as true as we could to the motivations and story of the League. I think I felt like it was my lucky day that we could be the documentary team to make the film about the people who started documentary.

This documentary is long overdue, beautifully conceived and executed, and sincerely appreciated.
– Gail Buckland, Distinguished Visiting Professor, The History of Photography, The Cooper Union

The cohesive narrative arc of your film is moving and enlightening–and utterly captivating…history at its best.
– Julia Van Haaften, Founding Curator, New York Public Library Photography Collection

I loved your film about the trail left by photography over the last hundred years. When I watched ORDINARY MIRACLES, there were all my idols… it was all abeautiful and exciting memory.
– D.A. Pennebaker, Filmmaker

…an affectionate portrait of the organization that was to photography what the Group Theater was to the stage. What the Photo League inspired in the 1930s-40s was not only aesthetically rich, but politically crucial–namely an inclusive and tolerant sensibility…The photos are terrific.
– Annette Insdorf, Professor, Graduate Film Program, Columbia University School of the Arts and Director of Undergraduate Film Studies
